Global Citizenship Programme (GCP)
Explore how Woodlanders become global citizens - through overseas immersion and hosting international friends at our school.
At Woodlands Secondary, we believe that our students are gifts to society, not just in Singapore, but in the wider world. To prepare them for this role, our Global Citizenship Programme (GCP) provides immersive overseas learning experiences that broaden perspectives, deepen cross-cultural understanding, and strengthen their rootedness to home.
But the GCP is more than just overseas trips. It is a two-way exchange. We also welcome international students to our school, giving Woodlanders the opportunity to be hosts and ambassadors right here on our premises.
These experiences are more than just visits. They are opportunities for Woodlanders to step out of their comfort zones, engage with diverse communities, and discover their place in a complex, interconnected world.
Our Belief
We believe that developing global awareness and cross-cultural skills is essential for our students to thrive in the future. Through carefully curated learning journeys and hosting experiences, students gain first-hand exposure to the cultures, histories, and contemporary realities of our neighbours in Asia and beyond.
This programme supports the school's broader mission of nurturing enduring hearts and creative minds, ready to serve with empathy and integrity.
Key Objectives
Our GCP is designed to help Woodlanders:
🌏 Develop global awareness – Understand Singapore's place in the region and the world.
🤝 Build cross-cultural skills – Interact respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds.
🧠 Apply classroom learning – Connect their studies to real-world contexts through interdisciplinary exploration.
❤️ Strengthen rootedness – Appreciate Singapore's unique strengths and challenges through the lens of other countries.
💪 Grow as leaders – Build confidence, resilience, and adaptability in unfamiliar environments.
🏫 Be gracious hosts – Welcome international friends and share Singaporean culture with warmth and pride.
Two Pillars of the GCP
Our Global Citizenship Programme is built on two complementary pillars:

🏠 Hosting International Students | Woodlanders welcome international visitors to our school, sharing our culture and building friendships on home ground. |

Pillar 2: Hosting International Students at WDL
We are proud to welcome students and educators from our partner schools and institutions around the world to Woodlands Secondary. Hosting is a key part of the GCP experience, and it is an opportunity for every Woodlander to become a global citizen without leaving Singapore.
